Product Passport Data Validation

This module checks a single Battery Passport file against the JSON schema of its battery category. At the moment it covers structure and syntax: required fields, data types, value constraints and nesting. Checks of the meaning of the data and of plausibility across fields are planned for later releases.

3.1 Validating a Passport File

Export a Battery Passport from your system as a JSON file. The file has to match one of the supported schemas listed in section 3.2.

Once signed in:

  1. Open the Product Passport Validation section.
  2. Drag and drop your JSON file into the upload area.
  3. Select the schema that matches your battery type. The selection is sorted into folders by data model and version.
  4. Click Validate.

The results appear right below the upload area. Valid elements are confirmed, invalid ones are marked in red with an error message. If you click a data element in the results view, you see which validation rules it failed.

If the validation fails, fix the marked fields in your source system, export the file again and validate it once more.

3.2 Supported Schemas by Battery Type

Every battery type comes in two variants: a general schema and a Feb27 schema that reflects the requirements applying from February 2027.

Battery TypeGeneral SchemaFeb27 Schema
Electric VehicleEV_2.0.1.jsonEV_Feb27_2.0.1.json
Industrial Batteries without BMSIndustrial_Without_BMS_2.0.1.jsonIndustrial_Without_BMS_Feb27_2.0.1.json
Light Means of TransportLMT_2.0.1.jsonLMT_Feb27_2.0.1.json
Other Industrial Batteries (> 2 kWh)Other_Industrial_Above_2kWh_2.0.1.jsonOther_Industrial_Above_2kWh_Feb27_2.0.1.json
Stationary Industrial Batteries (> 2 kWh)Stationary_Industrial_Above_2kWh_2.0.1.jsonStationary_Industrial_Above_2kWh_Feb27_2.0.1.json

The schemas differ in their required fields and structural constraints. If you pick the wrong one, you will get errors that say nothing about the quality of your data. So check that the schema matches both the battery category and the date from which your passport has to comply.

The schema files and the accompanying data model documentation are available for download in the Resources section, which also holds the BatteryPass-Ready Data Attribute Longlist both are based on. It is worth looking at the schema before you generate your export; this helps you avoid most common structural errors.
